18th National Photovoltaic Conference 2020

12. – 13. March 2020, SwissTech Convention Center, EPFL, Lausanne

This Swiss solar power industry’s key conference is organized by NET Nowak Energy & Technology Ltd., together with Nova Energie and Swissolar.

This year's 18th edition National Photovoltaic Conference 2020 took place on 12 and 13 March 2020 at the SwissTech Convention Center, EPFL, in Lausanne. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the event was approved by the Canton of Vaud’s competent authorities and additional measures were undertaken to protect the approximately 400 participants. Due to the COVID-19 situation, several lectures were held by video.

The National Photovoltaic Conference has been established as the foremost essential meeting place for the Swiss solar power industry, which this year, as in the past, was accompanied by a scientific poster exhibition and a product exhibition. The corona pandemic was also a dominant topic at the conference, being a particular challenge for all market participants. After a positive start to the year, supply bottlenecks for Chinese modules soon followed and now there is concern about sickness related absence of workers. Even with all these challenges, there is a general mood of optimism in the solar industry. In the sessions, held by renowned speakers from Switzerland and abroad, topics such as the current market, the political environment, the consequences of 50 GW in Switzerland, self-consumption, storage and grid integration, selected examples from research and the implementation of building-integrated photovoltaics were addressed and discussed. The conference was concluded with a keynote by the renowned climate researcher, Prof. Thomas Stocker, who stressed to all participants the need for swift and decisive action.
